(14.9% alcohol): Saturated bright ruby. Aromas of black fruits, mocha and chocolate show a faintly stewed aspect. Plush, broad and sweet in the mouth, with generous flavors of dark berries and smoke currently cut off by substantial building, tongue-dusting tannins and an edge of acidity. Turned a bit dry with aeration. I wanted more energy and lift.

Deep, bright ruby. Reticent nose hints at cherry pit, cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Juicy, densely packed and penetrating, with intriguing flavors of briary dark berries, iron, cured meat, licorice and menthol. My enthusiasm was muted by a dry spot in the middle that I did not notice in the barrel sample I tasted a year ago. The firmly tannic finish is youthfully clenched and a bit raw.
Bright ruby-red. Subdued but pure aromas of dark cherry, black raspberry, chocolate, mocha and mint. Dense and sweet but also nicely penetrating, with plenty of acidity for the vintage. Nicely defined flavors of current, red cherry, tobacco, brown spices and menthol. Finishes with excellent length, and firm tannins that make those of the regular 2004 cabernet appear particularly dry.
