The 2017 Neyen has the most unusual nose of aromatic herbs that reminded me of a vermouth, intensely balsamic and showy, with notes of sweet spices (cinnamon and vanilla). It was produced with a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere with only 13.2% alcohol, quite surprising for a warm year like 2017. It's medium-bodied and harmonious, with a sleek and polished texture and focused flavors. It's lighter and has lower alcohol and less oak than in the past. The style has changed... 20,400 bottles.

The 2017 Neyen Bordeaux blend is harvested from a vineyard planted over 130 years ago in Apalta, Colchagua Valley. Comprising 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, it comes out dark in the glass with a brick dust shimmer. The mild nose of cassis and mint also features dried flowers and geraniums over a bed of oak. Made in an oxidative style; the tannins are gentle and well-rounded and the palate concentrated but not overly taut. Classical in nature, this is an expressive, long-lasting wine.
Impressive clarity of blackberries and licorice with cassia bark, wild herbs and leaves, as well as blackcurrants and purple berries. The palate has a sleek, powerful and focused style with such long, athletic yet fine tannins, driving the long, juicy finish. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon and 45% carmenere. Drink or hold.
