Punteggio 91+/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2016

The 2012 Pinot Noir Jack Hill Vineyard is a very pretty, perfumed wine. Dried cherry, rose petal, mint and anise grace the palate. This is an especially light to medium-bodied Pinot that emphasizes floral an spice notes, while the fruit is pushed more into the background. The 2012 was done with 35% whole clusters and spent 22 months in barrel. Today, it is a bit closed and not fully expressive.

With notes of hibiscus, cherry and spice accented by both conifer and bay, the Jack Hill Vineyard offers mouth-watering acidity, persistent tannin, and lots of length. This wine is extremely tight currently and needs time to develop in bottle. (ECB)

Pine, mint, wild flowers and sweet dried cherries lift from the glass in Ross Cobb's 2012 Pinot Noir Jack Hill Vineyard. Feminine and lithe, the Jack Hill is probably best enjoyed over the next few years, as today it comes across as a bit fragile. If I had to venture a guess, I would say this fruit was probably picked too early. The Jack Hill emerges from a site on the northern edge of Freestone Valley, near Occidental. The 2013 was done with 35% whole clusters.
