Also from barrel, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reserve is a finished blend and is all Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville. It too is a big, rich, powerful wine that has tons of blackcurrants, chocolate, scorched earth, truffle, and violets aromas and flavors. These carry over to the palate, where the wine is uber-full-bodied yet light and graceful, with present tannins. It's going to need short-term cellaring but is unquestionably a thrilling example of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

A barrel sample, the 2016 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon offers up a deep garnet-purple color and gorgeous, spicy nose of aniseed, cumin seed, cloves and cinnamon stick, with sandalwood, cassis, baked blackberries and licorice at the core plus a hint of espresso. Full-bodied, lush and plush, the opulently fruited palate delivers a ton of spicy fruit layers with a good, long pepper and spice-laced finish.
