Tasted blind. Pale ruby. Fresh cherry – not much tertiary – very fresh. Elevated acidity and earthy flavours, with mellow tannin on the palate. Long tart-cherry and bitter-almond finish. (SCJ)

Pretty tight nose but the palate has more expressive style with rhubarb and cranberry fruit and brisk acidity. Appreciably more concentrated than their San Andreas Fault bottling, and deserving of more bottle age to unfurl. (RH)
20% whole-cluster fermentation. Aged in French oak (40% new). Admirably ambitious in terms of longevity. Extremely pale crimson. Edgy, crisp, cool nose. Featherlight. Very In Pursuit of Balance ! Both fruity and floral. Still quite chewy and ambitious with a bone-dry finish. (JR)
The 2014 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve is a blend of old-vine fruit from various parcels around the Hirsch property. The Reserve is quite powerful and deep, but naturally it does not speak with the singularity of most of the other wines in this range. There is certainly plenty to like in the Reserve. I find greater focus and direction in some of the other wines. Scents of dried cherry, mint and crushed flowers linger on the close.
