The Mazzei 2015 Concerto di Fonterutoli opens to a darkly concentrated appearance and thick layers of blackberry fruit and black cherry. In a sense, the 2015 vintage is a more refined version of 2011. This wine shows a voluptuous and exuberant personality with sweet tannins and lots of rich fruit. I would say that 2015 marks the end of a chapter that saw very voluptuous and rounded wines up until this date. The wine becomes more streamlined and tight from this point forward.

Looks quite an evolved garnet. Sweet and even a little old. Pretty drying finish. Was it picked a little late? A bit old fashioned. (JR)
Captures an effortless quality, a mix of 2013 opulence and 2011 old school charm, majoring on mandarin oil, orange zest, sour plum, raspberry, tobacco, dried herbs and Tuscan underbrush, all wrapped up in fine tannins, vivid, energetic and juicy on the finish. This is an easy one to recommend. Harvest Semptember 28 to early October. From this vintage they changed the ageing to 500l barrels for the Sangiovese, and 225l for the Cabernet Sauvignon, with around 70% new oak. Carlo Ferrini consulting winemaker.
The 2015 Concerto, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is positively gorgeous. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, lavender, spice and menthol retains considerable primary intensity and freshness, which suggests the 2015 is going to need at least a few years in bottle to be at its most expressive. The Concerto is a wine of substance and real personality. I can't wait to see how it ages.
