The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lifted prune and black cherry nose, bashful at first, but soon losing its inhibitions. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, saline in the mouth, with dark cherry and iodine toward the structured, slightly brittle finish. It just needs a little more flesh to "fill in the gaps."
Dark crimson for a Charmes. Bright cherry fruit. Racy and with lots of energy. Flattering. But with tension. Even though only medium build. Slightly bitter finish and it does fall away just a little on the end. (JR)
