The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alluvial Selection is a dense, powerful wine. Unfortunately, the 2021 has also lost a bit of freshness since I last tasted it. Some of that is to be expected, of course, but the 2021 is a bit more forward than I anticipated. The oak imprint is so strong here. Dark red cherry, red plum, mocha, rose petal, licorice and spice wrap around the juicy finish. The Alluvial Selection is more floral and red-toned in profile than the Heritage bottling.

Coming from rockier soils closer to the Silverado Trail, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alluvial Selection is deeper purple-hued and offers another level of everything – fruit, concentration, tannins, and class. Cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and violets are just some of the notes, and it's full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with tons of potential. It won't be for instant gratification, however.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alluvial Selection is one of the best wines I have tasted from Gemstone in some time. There's terrific energy, and plenty of size, too. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and graphite are all dialed up. The Alluvial is sourced from parcels at the front of the property, adjacent to the Silverado Trail.
