The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Social Currency is a blend of fruit from Paras on Howell Mountain and Pellett in St. Helena. The mix of mountain and valley floor sites yields an incredibly vibrant, distinctive wine loaded with personality. Graphite, crushed rocks, torrefaction, menthol, dark fruit, chocolate, leather, spice and plum all come to life in this mid-weight yet deeply structured Cabernet Sauvignon. There is so much to like here. (bottled in 1.5L)

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Social Currency is deep purple-black colored with aromas of raisin cake, plum preserves, baking spices, sautéed herbs, tobacco, dried leaves and cherry cough syrup with an emerging core of baked black currants. The palate is full-bodied, with firm, rugged tannins over-taking the subtle savory flavors, giving the impression of a slightly hollow mid-palate, finishing just a bit warm.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Social Currency is polished, refined and quite understated, almost surprisingly so given how rich these Cabernets tend to be. Medium in body and impeccable in its balance, the 2017 has plenty to offer. Expressive floral and spiced notes add brightness to this attractive Cabernet Sauvignon from Detert. Social Currency, which is bottled only in magnum, is conceived as the top wine in the range, but that goes back to an earlier period in time when the range included far fewer single vineyard wines. Some of the newer wines in this lineup offer more character, in my view. (Bottled Only in Magnums)
