Medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Estate Selection is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. It takes some time to release aromas of blackcurrants and blueberries, plus tones of iron, aniseed, mushrooms and dried roses. The medium-bodied palate is pure and spicy, with fresh lift, soft, grainy tannins and a long finish.

The 2017 Estate Selection is sensual, open-knit and inviting, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next 10-15 years or so. Raspberry jam, plum, white chocolate, spice, new leather and mocha all build with a bit of time in the glass. Redder tonalities of fruit and a whole range of floral and spice notes develop as the 2017 opens up. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot round out this striking Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend.
Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, the 2017 Estate Selection reflects what's planted on the estate. It spends 26 months in 75% new French oak. This deep purple beauty boasts a rocking core of blueberry and cassis fruit as well notes of tobacco leaf, violets, chocolate, and spice box. Full-bodied, it offers wonderful purity of fruit, ripe tannins, and a balanced, elegant style. Owner Roger Bower’s Crown Point Vineyards, with help from the team of Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, are unquestionably fashioning some of the top Bordeaux blends coming out of Santa Barbara County today. The young Frenchman Simone Faury has replaced Adam Henkel as head winemaker, and unquestionably, the future is very bright for this address.
