Saturated red-ruby. Highly nuanced nose combines small wild berries, maraschino cherry, dried flowers and burnt cinders. Dense, sappy and highly concentrated; wonderfully chewy and fresh. The sweet flavors are given shape and grip by spices and minerals. Finishes with fine, sweet tannins and a whiplash of flavor. Very classy, energetic wine-a triumph for the year.

Aromatically dominated by sweet spices, the exceptional 2003 Clos de la Roche displays magnificent breadth, concentration, and power. Medium to full-bodied and velvety-textured, it coats the mouth with fleshy, pulp-laden black cherries and blackberries. This supple, flawlessly ripe wine should be drunk between 2007 and 2018. Ruby-red. Complex, explosive aromas of red and black fruits, espresso, cola, noble spices and herbs. Offers compelling volume and density but with excellent inner-mouth energy and grip. Finishes very dense and very long, with tangy spices and considerable incipient complexity. Magnien considers this his best Clos de la Roche to date, noting that it has only 13.3% alcohol.
