Punteggio 93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012

Green-tinged gold. Intense aromas of candied pit fruits, honey, orange peel and white flowers. Very sweet and densely packed but lively as well, offering vibrant peach, pear and candied citrus flavors lifted by subtle spiciness. Closes with excellent energy and power, leaving spice and floral notes behind. (JR)

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2013-2015, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2012

The 2009 Muscat Alexandria Jackass Hill is a gorgeous, exotic wine from 103 year-old head trained vines. White flowers, lychee, mango, mint, passion fruit and sweet spices are some of many aromas and flavors that are woven together in this expressive sweet wine. This is a fabulous effort. Frankly, I found it hard to spit this wine! 375 ml

Frankly, I found it hard to spit! Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. Martinelli is one of the original pioneering families in Sonoma. I tasted a wide range of wines during a recent visit. The 2008 Syrahs, from a challenging vintage, are a bit up and down, but the rest of the wines are all outstanding. As always, these are fairly bold, extroverted wines, but their overall balance is typically superb. Tel. (707) 525-0570

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
