Vivid red. Complex, floral-accented bouquet evokes fresh red berries, rhubarb, herbs and Asian spices. Pliant and expansive, offering juicy raspberry and cherry flavors lifted by zesty minerality. Closes silky and sweet, with impressive punch and clarity.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition, which is usually over 90% Grenache and the rest small dollops of Syrah and Mourvedre aged primarily in tank, displays the classic medium ruby color, with copious quantities of kirsch and heady alcohol in the seductive, lush, forward style of this vintage. The tannins are completely resolved and the wine, which is already drinking exceptionally well, should continue to do so for 5-7 years. Vignobles Jean-Marie Royer is a very small estate of just over 12 acres, located in the southwestern sector of the appellation, not far from St.-Prefert, with their holdings in the two best known sectors of that area, Bois de la Ville and Les Grandes Serres. A very good wine, the 2009 Domaine Jean Royer Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Tradition, 90% Grenache and the remainder Syrah and Mourvèdre, delivers a complex, pretty profile with sweet red berry fruits, flowers, dried licorice, and spice aromatics. This is followed by a medium-bodied, well balanced wine that has solid depth through the mid-palate, a supple texture, and an overall, delicious, very drinkable profile. It should continue to shine for 5-8 years or more.

Bright red. Pungent aromas of dried red berries, aromatic herbs, spices and rose. Intensely flavored and firmly built, offering a silky texture and flavors of raspberry, cherry, candied flowers and spices. Complex, old-school Chateauneuf that finishes with resonating herb and floral qualities. I really like this style.
