The medium ruby-colored 1996 displays a moderately intense nose of roasted herbs intermixed with cherry jam. Seductive, easy-going, open-knit, and light, its low acidity and accessible style suggest consuming it over the next 5-6 years.

The 1996 La Croix de Gay is much more closed on the nose than the 1995, featuring dark berry fruit, sage, mint and dark plum aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, gritty tannins. This is more masculine in style than the 1995 but typical of the vintage. It's cohesive and nicely poised, with a touch of citrus peel interlacing the fresh dark cherry and plum fruit tones toward the grippy finish. The 1996 is very fine for the vintage and it is quite ferrous on the aftertaste. Tasted June 2011. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.
