Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2021-2031, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2021

A good 2017, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has elegance and complexity, but it lacks length and depth. Notes of red and black currants, cigar box, chocolate, and spice define the bouquet, and it’s medium-bodied, with impressive tannins and good overall balance. It’s already drinking nicely yet should evolve for a good decade.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Coombsville) emerges from a single block at Meteor. Rich and creamy, the 2017 marries fruit intensity with the savory and mineral quality that is typical here. Rose petal, gravel, mint, licorice and pomegranate all run through this super-expressive, punchy Napa Valley Cabernet. The purity of the flavors is just striking.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley was aged for 20 months in French oak, 75% new. It sails out of the glass with notions of warm cassis, blackberry pie and stewed plums with hints of spice cake, clove oil and cedar chest. The full-bodied palate is chock-full of baked black berry flavors and compelling dried herbs sparks, framed by chewy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing just a little firm. 1,514 cases were produced.
