Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2035, Neal Martin, Jul 2019

The 2015 La Croix de Gay offers attractive dark cherry, cedar, black tea and white pepper aromas on the nose, well defined with a touch of meat juice developing with time. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, nicely judged acidity, fresh and lively if just missing a little complexity toward the suave finish. But overall, this is a very decent Pomerol that has improved in recent months. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Intense essence of tea leaves. Rather interesting nose but a bit hot on the end. Round rather than tannic. (JR)

Just as it showed from barrel, the La Croix de Gay is powerful and structured to the core. There is tremendous depth to the red cherry and plum fruit, while the aromatics offer a good deal of nuance, with hints of cedar, tobacco and dried herbs that add complexity throughout. Readers should expect a brooding, reticent Pomerol that demands cellaring. There is not a whole lot of immediacy or sexiness here, at least not today. Even so, the 2015 has turned out beautifully.
