Deep ruby. Potent, oak-spiced aromas of raspberry liqueur, spicecake and potpourri pick up a smoky mineral nuance with air. Deeply concentrated red fruit and floral pastille flavors gain weight and take a turn to darker berries, picking up notes of cola and licorice on the way. Closes smooth, sweet and very long, showing resonating red fruit character and gentle tannic grip.

Possessing slightly more depth and richness than the classic cuvee, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Boisrenard is a blend of mostly Grenache (it includes all 13 permitted varieties) that spent 18 months in small barrels. It offers attractive notes of dark fruits, menthol, subtle barrique and cured meats aromas in the medium plus-bodied, focused, narrow style that’s common in the vintage (and becoming more and more common at this estate). While it’s elegant and pretty, it lacks the breadth and richness of past cuvees. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years.

Sweet, expansive and deeply pitched, conveying a sappy quality to its black raspberry, mineral and floral pastille flavors. Finishes sweet, broad and very long, with building tannins and a persistent floral quality.
