Punteggio 92+/100 · Da bere 2027-2047, Neal Martin, Mar 2024

The 2014 Lagrange has an expressive bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and cedar scents. The oak is nicely integrated, though it is not terribly complex. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine tannins and touches of blue fruit emerging towards the finish with more succulence than the aromatics imply. Give this another couple of years in bottle because it is a Saint-Julien with pedigree. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Deep youthful crimson. Youthfully dark fruited and just a hint of oak char. Leafy and slightly lean on the mid palate so that the acidity shows on the finish. (JH)

Full bottle 1,322 g. Part of a special bottling of a series of vintages of Ch Lagrange in ancient oaks. This one also fell during storm Klaus in 2009 when it was 353 years old (see note on Ch Lagrange 2013 Futaie des Clos). This wine was matured in oak from an Indian-summer-shaped vintage. Bright, healthy, deep garnet. Very vibrant and lively – even a little opulent – on the nose. Much riper than earlier vintages. Crunchy fruit and some vibrancy. Winning. This could be drunk already if it was aerated well in advance and served with chewy food. Suave with well-polished tannins and some sweet fruit. A successful wine! (JR)

Richly concentrated plum, cassis, and damson, this is powerful, with the highest amount of Cabernet Sauvignon than any vintage since 2000. Firm but fine in its architecture, this combines succulent tannins with a gourmet edge of sweet fruit. The structure is beginning to soften but it needs another few years to fully open, so give it either a good long carafe of three hours or more, or wait. 40% of production in the 1st wine, with 60% new oak.
