Turley's 2013 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard captures all of the depth and intensity that are such signatures of this famed Sonoma Valley site. Even with all of the overtness, the Bedrock retains plenty of salivating acidity as well as a real sense of energy. Hints of tobacco, mint, savory herbs and dried cherries add shades of complexity, but above all else Bedrock is a wine of mid-palate richness and texture, all backed up by significant tannic clout.

The 2013 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard from Sonoma originates in the home vineyard of Joel and Morgan Peterson, its vines planted in 1888. It is composed of volcanic, rocky soils and, like most of the vineyards for Turley, organically managed. This is a killer 2013 Zinfandel, with raspberry, black cherry, briary, berry fruit, some hints of subtle earth, pepper, spice and a nice, meaty, full-bodied mouthfeel, its terrific acidity giving it balance. The alcohol is slightly lower than some of the other big boys in the portfolio, coming in at 14.9%. Drink it over the next decade.
A wine of real phenolic weight and vertical texture, the 2013 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard is explosive from start to finish. Iron, smoke, tobacco, savory herbs and dense red stone fruits blossom in a wine built on serious structure. In this vintage, winemaker Tegan Passalacqua gave the Bedrock three additional weeks of time on the skins, which no doubt explains much of the energy and power here. Dollops of Petite Sirah and Alicante round out a very classic-feeling Sonoma Valley field blend.
