Inky in colour, with rich and enticing aromatics, touch of ripe tomatoes, black cherry, blackberry, olive tapendade, all with a delicious earthy and sweet edge. A clear standout in the lineup. If you are just hearing about Clos Dubreuil after its elevation to Grand Cru Classé, this is the vintage to get hold of, although it is not quite ready to drink and will benefit from a few more years in bottle. Released in a massive, heavy bottle, the 2016 Château Clos Dubreuil delivers the goods and offers a rich, full-bodied, yet shockingly elegant profile that carries a modern edge in its crème de cassis, lead pencil, classy oak, and subtle violet aromas and flavors. It’s a big, rich wine that plays beautifully in the more elegant style of the vintage.
The 2016 Clos Dubreuil has a rich, opulent dark-chocolate- and mocha-scented bouquet that needs to muster more delineation. The palate is ripe and generous on the entry. The tannins are ripe but firm, the oak conspicuous, but there is classy fruit here, and wonderful delineation toward the finish. This is an impressive Saint-Émilion from Benoit Trocard, and it should age beautifully.
