An attractive mix of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, and violet emerge from the 2017 Giusto di Notri (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Cabernet Franc and Merlot). It is full and long, with ripe fruit and tannins that flood through the mid-palate, followed by warming oak spices that perfume the finish. This plush and sunny wine is drinking beautifully now and will drink well over the next 10-15 years.

A wine of substance and depth, the 2017 Giusto di Notri is terrific. In 2017, the Giusto has a bit less opulence than normal (typical of wines of the coast in this vintage) and yet that also gives it more immediacy. A rush of sweet red/purplish berry fruit, cinnamon and spice builds as the 2017 shows off its racy curves.
This extensive Suvereto estate is a relatively new speciality for Armit. This wine from the clay-based soils of the Val di Cornia is always a Bordeaux blend and this 25th anniversary blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep crimson. Very ripe and intense nose. Aromatic and obviously quite alcoholic. Big and bold – certainly not subtle. Rather a hot finish that grates a little on the palate. The acidity and fruit are not yet married. It may all come right, and I know it's a bit of a cult wine in Italy, but I wouldn't choose to drink this yet. I do think you could quite easily find a better-value Bordeaux blend quite easily. (JR)
A bright and fruity red with a level of tightness and precision that suggests greatness. Medium to full body. Intense tannins give focus to the center palate. Super length and beauty. Celebrates its 25th anniversary. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc and 8% merlot. Drink after 2022.
