The 2019 Aspect Pinot Noir opens slowly in the glass with a burst of black raspberry and savory herbs complicated by hints of licorice. This is racy and sleek, with ripe wild berries accented by a contrasting blend of sweet spices and saline minerals. The palate is left clenched with a combination of primary concentration and silty tannins, tapering off structured and long under a flourish of inner violets and lavender. This is rich yet also fresh, making it a pleasure to taste.

The 2019 Pinot Noir Aspect has a medium ruby color and alluring scents of pomegranate, blood orange and rhubarb accented by garrigue, aniseed and allspice, and it continues to reveal new aromatic nuances as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is powerful, its intense, spicy fruit supported by loads of powdery tannins and seamless acidity. Complex and layered, its long, latent finish suggests a graceful evolution in bottle over the next decade or more.
Full bottle 1,785 g. Truly the heaviest glass I have ever weighed. Dry-farmed on Jory soils at an elevation of 520 – 825 ft. Aged 16 months in French oak. Pale ruby. Noticeable vanilla and oak spice. Cherry and fresh sawdust. Palate is high acid. Alcohol is quite warm and texture is round. Sweet and a bit contrived but well made and widely appealing. Medium-plus finish. (SCJ)
