Tasted blind in a line-up of 2011 Amoureuses in Holland, this 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses lightly deeper in color than Drouhin’s Amoureuses ‘11, and possessing an attractive, slightly more exotic and riper bouquet with lush red berry fruit and mint leaning toward wild fennel with aeration. This is complex and draws you in. There is still some wood here but that will be subsumed with time. The palate is very well balanced with a slight savory note, perhaps a tiny bit of brettanomyces although it is not excessive. The acidity is well-judged with a little dryness coming through on the finish. Tasted June 2014.

Good medium red. Subtly complex, ineffable perfume offers raspberry, heady blood orange, white and black pepper and piquant minerality. The palate offers an uncanny combination of silky texture and outstanding precision and cut, with great lift and inner-mouth aromatic character to the flavors of sappy fresh raspberry and pungent crushed stone. This wonderfully tactile, fine-grained Amoureuses leaves the taste buds quivering on the rising, gripping aftertaste, where the noble tannins are almost invisible today.
