The most expensive wine, is the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (14.7% alcohol) that emanates totally from the Stags Leap District. This is a winner from Reynolds Family Winery. Opaque ruby/purple, with sweet graphite, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit as well as a touch of plum and Asian spice, the wine is full-bodied, youthful, powerful, muscular, and multidimensional as well as built like a skyscraper. Possibly the best Cabernet Sauvignon that I ever tasted from Reynolds Family Winery, it seems to have at least 10-20 years of upside potential left.

Despite its youth and provenance, this wine is as soft and warmly fruited (blackberry and cassis) as the one above, yet costs twice as much. It’s remarkably smooth and only moderately tannic, so drink up, though there is good acidity on the crisp finish. (LM)
