Note di degustazione
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is vivid ruby in the glass. Tasted from magnum, it shows a dark and rich display of sweet herbs and tobacco, depths of savory cherry sauce, shaved cedar, sweet cream and a hint of vanilla bean. It’s silky in texture with zesty acids that lift the expression, further complemented by tart red and black wild berries and salty mineral tones. Energy remains high throughout the lightly structured yet cool-toned finish, where remnants of grippy wood tannin, echoes of licorice and wild herbal tones linger. This is still so youthfully tense and requiring some time to blossom in the glass. Sampled from the winery cellar.

Pacenti’s mid-weight 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is made in a very similar style to the Rosso. A lively ruby, it opens with a finely nuanced, fresh nose, followed by a delicate core of ripe fruit that bursts onto the palate with exceptional elegance, purity and finesse. Silky, fine tannins frame the finish of this unforgettable, profound Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2019. Importer: Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300.

Deep, bright red. Exotic aromas of raspberry liqueur, roasted coffee and mocha. Lush, large-scaled, dense and sappy, with a compelling sweetness; really expands in the mouth. Perhaps a bit obvious and full-blown but sound acids give this wonderfully smooth, rich, fairly primary wine plenty of shape and sex appeal.
