Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2015-2030, Jancis Robinson MW, Oct 2025

77% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah and 6% Carignane. 52-year-old vines. Rich and gutsy, with real structure and still, amazingly, quite a bit of tannin. Fresh berries handed to the palate on a plate. (JR)

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2018-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2018

Good dark red with a hint of amber at the rim. Began with an aroma of chocolate and a hint of maderization but grew more floral and fresh with air, taking on a strong plummy character that follows through on the palate. Quite plush and broad; perhaps a tad overripe but not sweet. This very concentrated, savory wine finishes with serious dusty but fine-grained tannins and excellent subtle length. Draper is convinced that the velvety quality shown by the tannins is largely attributable to the wine's Petite Sirah component. (In 2005, said Draper, "the winter went to mid-June before the rains ended; the summer was then warm but not hot.") 14.8% alcohol.

Quite a feminine nose but a pretty muscular palate. Very firm with quite a bit of acidity. This needs a bit of time to settle down but is certainly ambitious and has Lytton Springs’ trademark dried herb finish. (JR)

(77% zinfandel, 17% petite sirah and 6% carignane) Deep red. Sweet dark berry and kirsch scents are complicated by musky herbs, dried flowers and minerals, with a suave undercurrent of oak spice contributing sweetness. Powerful cassis and bitter cherry flavors are firmed by youthful tannins, which add grip to the finish. Possesses the focus, balance and concentration to repay a decade or more in the cellar.
