Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2021-2032, Neal Martin, Feb 2022

The 2000 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has slight ageing on the rim. It has a knockout bouquet with intense red fruit, hints of dark chocolate and peppermint, quite intense for this vintage. The palate is sweet and fleshy with plenty of depth, good density, expanding wonderfully on the finish with a light kirsch note. This has plenty of vim 'n vigour - an excellent Clos de la Roche and one of the very few occasions where I prefer it to its 1999 counterpart.

The 2000 Clos de la Roche is a fabulous choice for readers who enjoy Burgundies with a great deal of aromatic complexity. Crushed flowers, mint, pine, red-toned fruits and chalk are some of the signatures. On the palate, the wine is a touch compact and unyielding, but all the elements are nicely balanced within the context of a year that was not easy. Hints of game, smoke, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs linger on the close. I don’t expect the 2000 will improve meaningfully from here, but it is quite expressive and delicious today.

(noted as Cuvée Lucie on the label). The original tasting note is still spot on and I repeat it here save for noting that this could either be drunk now or held for another 3 to 5 years before drinking in earnest. Beautiful fruit, rich, earthy flavors, sleek tannins and intense goût de terroir all combine to create a powerful effect of both harmony and excellent length. This is no blockbuster but I very much like the style as it's wonderfully complex and sappy. The tannins have begun to mellow and while approachable now, I personally would cellar this for another 3 years or so first.
