Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2016-2024, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2015

The 2011 Pommard 1er Cru les Grands Epenots still needs to coalesce on the nose; there is a slight ash scent that does not quite fit in with the earthy red berry fruit that lies behind. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannin. Good backbone here, though it comes across as a little austere with a masculine, tertiary finish that needs to develop a little more flesh. Give this another 2-3 years.

A reticent and quite cool nose offers even better depth with its aromas of dark berries, earth, humus, spice and game hints. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and palate coating medium weight flavors that exhibit focused power and fine precision while terminating in an equally complex, driving and impressively lengthy finish. As is often the case between this and the Santenots, this is less elegant but more powerful. A qualitative choice though the personalities of these two wines are distinctly different. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2019+
