Note di degustazione
The 1998 Gran Reserva (95% Tempranillo, 3% Garnacha, 2% Graciano) is a properly aged Rioja, offering licorice, light tar and dried field herbs over an attractive oak-inflected background. The house style emerges on the palate with a volatile lift that enhances freshness, slenderness and silky texture. Classical in character, with a somewhat delicate mid-palate.

The 1998 Pecina Gran Reserva was aged for 48 months in used American oak. Similarly perfumed and styled to its younger siblings, it has additional fragrance, greater grip, and a bit more finesse. Nicely balanced and lengthy, it will provide excellent drinking over the next 8 years. Like many traditional producers, Hermanos Pecina is trying its hand at a more modern styled wine. Medium red. Suave red berry, kirsch, anise and dried rose aromas are compelling and strikingly precise. Silky in texture and packed with sweet red berry, licorice, vanilla bean and floral pastille flavors. Fine-grained tannins lend structure to this suave, flat-out delicious wine, which possesses outstanding depth and complexity and finishes with haunting floral echoes.
