Although recognizably in decline, the Brunels' 1989 Chateauneuf du Pape remains a delight to drink. It's bricking in hue, with dusty aromas and scents of dried cherries, but it's still full-bodied and creamy in texture, with delicate notes of black tea, potpourri and licorice on the expansive finish. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

Wow, what a treat. Just a gorgeous wine and drinking awesome, the 1989 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows lots of forest floor, dried cherries and mushroom notes on the nose. With air, more red fruits and exotic spice notes came out while the earth and mushroom notes faded. Medium to full bodied with an outstanding palate that shows ripe, sweet fruit and great weight. Not a jagged edge anywhere and silky smooth with a long finish.
