From The Purple Notebook – Dinner in North London. The wine came from Edmund Penning-Rowsell’s cellar. Sweet and gentle. Thick and dusty and very lively. Rich and together. Thoroughly integrated with enormous density yet with no sign of decay. (JR)

Tasted Once The 1949, 1948, and 1945 Leoville-Bartons are all great efforts. The blockbuster 1945 is one of the great wines of the vintage. It possesses extraordinarily thick, massive fruit and body that stand up to the formidable tannin level. It will last for two more decades.

Ch. Léoville Barton is a Second Growth Saint-Julien estate, one of the three famous Léoville estates (along with Léoville Poyferré and Léoville Las Cases). Owned by the Barton family (along with Ch. Langoa Barton), it produces classically structured Claret that ages beautifully.
