1986 Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

This wine has drunk exceptionally well since its youth, and it continues to offer a dark ruby/purple/garnet color with no lightening at the edge. The flamboyant nose of jammy black fruits, tobacco, smoky oak, and coffee is intense and enjoyable. Fat, opulently-textured, super-concentrated, and lusty, this large-scaled, rich, multi-dimensional Cabernet Sauvignon is fully mature, but it displays no signs of losing its fruit. The wine possesses marvelous purity and exceptional length, leading me to believe it should continue to drink well for 7-8 more years. The tasting notes for this section are from two single blind tastings, one conducted in May, 1996, in California, and the other in June, 1996, in Baltimore.
