The 2004 Bucher Vineyard, which is a hillside vineyard on Westside Road planted with Dijon clones 115, 667, and the older Pommard clone, seems to follow the same formula as the Westside Road Neighbors – lots of acid, sweet and sour cherries intermixed with smoke, underbrush, and pomegranate. Relatively pale and blueish. The nose doesn’t seem especially Pinot – lacks a bit of freshness. It does, as billed, smell of maraschino cherries i e not especially natural and rather candified. Quite a gentle hand in winemaking but just not flavours that happen to appeal to me. A site near Sebastopol apparently. (JR)
(65% new oak) Deep red. Perfumed nose combines spices, rose petal, mocha, underbrush, minerals and earth. Fat, lush and sweet; creamy but with shape. Dominant flavors of spices, white pepper and forest floor. Attractive, spicy wine, and better than the 2003 version.

Williams Selyem is an iconic Russian River Valley winery best known for its Pinot Noir. Producing restrained yet classically Californian expressions of the heartbreak grape (as well as a host of other wines), the property has gone from pioneer to one of the region’s standard-bearers.
