Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques from Bruno Clair has a delightful, extremely pure bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry scents with delicate floral notes. The palate is tensile on the entry, tightly wound, bright and lively though it just attenuates a little towards the finish. There is a prettiness about this understated Clos Saint Jacques that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Not particularly aromatic. Very fresh and juicy on the palate – unexpected from the aroma. But it is still firmly tannic. Chewy, fresh, a bit gangly. (JH)
Medium red. Enticing raspberry and floral aromas. Broad, rich and sweet, with lovely delicacy to its flavors of spices, flowers and earth but not yet showing this cuvee's typical cut and thrust. Finishes rich and persistent--but not singing today. Am I underrating this?
