1998 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignon Martin Stelling Vineyard

Saturated medium ruby. Brooding aromas of plum, iron, tobacco and loam, with a lightly vegetal quality adding complexity. Fat, thick and dense for '98 but ultimately a wine of modest flavor development and verve. Has size but could use more clarity. Slightly drying finish shows late notes of celery and green pepper. A lot of price for the wine.
