Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2016-2036, Robert Parker, Oct 2013

The 2010 Proprietary Red (71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot) exhibits lots of dusty, loamy soil notes and a strong minerality in its masculine, dense, medium to full-bodied style with relatively elevated tannins. This big, backstrapping, loaded red requires another 3-4 years of bottle age. It should continue to evolve for 15-20 years. This estate is run by Shirley Roy, who continues to be inspired by the work her deceased husband began on their 17-acre estate tucked away in one of Napa Valley’s more secluded areas, Soda Canyon. They now have 12 blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 blocks of Merlot and 2 blocks of Petit Verdot, and the vineyard, which is in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains, continues to go from strength to strength. My favorite wine is usually their Cabernet Sauvignon. Tel. (707) 255-4409

(71% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot and 3% petit verdot): Bright medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, coffee, mocha, truffle and chocolate show a slightly porty quality. Fat, smooth and lush in the mouth, offering immediate accessibility. The truffley element carries through on the palate. This nicely rich, layered blend finishes with dusty tannins and good length.

Roy's 2010 Proprietary Red has a little more delineation and nuance than the 2009. Freshly cut flowers, violets, super ripe dark fruit, mocha, espresso, chocolate, plums, cassis and black currants all jump from the glass in this opulent full-bodied huge wine. Layers of fruit continue to build to the creamy, expressive finish. In 2010, the blend is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.

(74% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 6% petit verdot): Good full ruby. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, kirsch and licorice. Very nicely filled in, with harmonious acidity leavening the wine's volume. Intense dark fruit flavors are complemented by notes of truffle and tar. Finishes with broad, smooth tannins and a juicy quality. I find this a bit suaver than the 2009.
