Savory red and black fruits, dried herbs, leather, and loamy soil and cedary notes all emerge from the 2023 Sangiovese, a complex, nuanced Sangiovese that shines for its balance and restraint. Based on 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot and aged 10 months in 10% new French oak with the balance in neutral and once-used barrels, it's medium-bodied on the palate, with outstanding length and a pure, layered mouthfeel. It's not over the top and should have a solid decade-plus of longevity. Drink 2026-2038.

The 2023 Sangiovese is gorgeous. A dollop of Merlot fills out the mid-palate in a wine endowed with tons of varietal character. Sweet red cherry fruit, leather, spice, tobacco and dried herbs flesh out nicely in the glass. What a delight.
Sangiovese has been notoriously difficult to do well outside Tuscany, but Pride persists, and in 2023 cropped to just one cluster per shoot in an effort to get more concentration. The 2023 Sangiovese—a blend of 86% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot aged just 10 months in 11% new French oak—features varietally correct notes of mixed red and black cherries that carry a tart edge, plus a hint of orange zest. The wine is medium- to full-bodied, the tannins silky, the finish crisp.
