The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series The Vow is bright, aromatic and full of character. Blood orange, spice, mint, new leather and rose petal all soar out of the glass. This mid-weight, silky Cabernet is pure pleasure. The Vow was much more forbidding last year. Today, it is classy and polished to the core. I loved it.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series The Vow is another magnificent wine from Round Pond. Gravel, smoke, black cherry, incense and licorice meld into a core of intense blue and blackish fruit. Swaths of tannin give The Vow its virile power and intensity. The 2018 is going to need a few years to come together.
As it often is, Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series The Vow is the more aromatically expressive and nuanced of the two Rutherford Reserve wines. It is also more compact and nervous in 2018. That should not be in an issue in another few years' time, once the wine comes together a bit more fully. Today, it is vivid and exceptionally beautiful; I can't wait to taste it from bottle next year.
