Medium to dark ruby-colored, and sporting a dark cherry, spice, and fresh herb-scented nose, the 1998 Chambertin Clos de Beze is unquestionably one of the vintage's successes. Medium to full-bodied, broad, and powerful, it is a pure, well-balanced, and ripened wine. Its copious yet supple tannins are, at present, buried in layers and layers of red and black fruits. Domaine Robert Groffier is based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis and is famous for having some of the most enviable sites in the Côte de Nuits, including a full hectare within Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses – one of the most fiercely collected vineyards in Burgundy.
