Note di degustazione
Medium red with an amber edge. Fully evolved scents of plum, currant, tobacco and spices; reminded me of a Saint-Julien from a moderately ripe year. Smooth and spicy on entry, then on the lean side in the middle palate, with its currant and cedar flavors showing obvious green herb elements and a slightly medicinal character, suggesting that the grape sugars galloped ahead of phenolic maturity during the hot harvest. Finishes with good energy and a note of black pepper but a touch of sourness too, with the tannins turning a tad dry with air. (14.4% alcohol)

There is something reassuring about seeing a bottle of Chateau Montelena. This classic, old Napa Valley winery is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, but they can also fashion wonderful Chardonnay from the Alexander and Napa valleys. No further tasting note.
