The 2008 Syrah Zio Tony Ranch emerges from the glass with juicy red cherries, wild herbs, licorice, game and spices. Varietal notes continue to emerge from this totally graceful, nuanced wine. Sweet mint and floral notes give the finish much of its energy. The mid-weight Zio Tony Syrah has enough freshness and vibrancy to drink well for a number of years. I loved it.
Deep ruby. Rich cherry and blackberry aromas are complemented by black cardamom, spicecake and licorice. Deeply concentrated, powerful dark berry compote flavors pick up a slow-building smokiness with air, along with a note of fresh violet. The spice and floral notes repeat on the broad, sappy, impressively long finish. This deserves some cellar time, or at least a decanting.

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
