Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2023

The 2021 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch is loaded with pure red berry fruits—raspberries, strawberries and red cherry candy—plus nuances of orange peel, peach, conifer and wildflowers. The medium-bodied palate is supple and alluring, with layered, juicy fruit that calls you in for another sip. This will age, but I would be inclined to drink it on the earlier side for all its pretty fruit and perfume. 213 cases were made.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2023-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2023

The 2021 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch is soft, open-knit and ready to go. Dark blue/purplish berry fruit, spice, licorice, lavender and mocha build effortlessly in a mid-weight, exuberant Zinfandel that is all charm. Drink this attractive Zinfandel over the next decade or so.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2024-2034, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2023

A deeper but still transparent red, the 2021 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch has a more woodsy spice tone, with aromas of pine, black raspberry, and fresh spices. Full-bodied, it’s ripe with notes of blackberry and candied red fruit, and it has good concentration, with a long finish. It is pure and long, with a supple texture. Drink 2024-2034. One of the most historic names in Sonoma, the Martinellis are sixth-generation winegrowers based in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Prolific farmers, all of their wines come from estate-grown fruit, with 90% of the grapes sold off to other wineries. In addition to focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they also produce Zinfandel, Syrah, and Muscat of Alexandria. Courtney Robinett Wagoner joined the team in 2015 as the assistant winemaker before being promoted to winemaker in 2017.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
