Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2023

The 2021 Zinfandel Lolita Ranch opens with classic wafts of apricot and wild berries before blossoming to tones of tea leaves, underbrush and dried flowers. The medium-bodied palate is supple and mouthwatering, with perfumed flavors that glide effortlessly into a long finish. It's a bright, easy-to-drink style that's more reminiscent of Pinot Noir than the stereotypical notion of big, rich California Zinfandel. 223 cases were made.

The 2021 Zinfandel Lolita Ranch is a bold, racy wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, espresso, licorice and mocha all race out of the glass. This sumptuous, yet mid-weight Zinfandel is classic Martinelli.

The 2021 Zinfandel Lolita Ranch pours a deep but transparent ruby, with aromas of fresh peach, wild raspberry, and candied flowers. Medium-bodied, it brings juicy fruit up front and has good spice and lift on the finish, with white pepper and wild berries, fine tannins, and fresh lift. It will drink well now or over the next 5-6 years. One of the most historic names in Sonoma, the Martinellis are sixth-generation winegrowers based in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Prolific farmers, all of their wines come from estate-grown fruit, with 90% of the grapes sold off to other wineries. In addition to focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they also produce Zinfandel, Syrah, and Muscat of Alexandria. Courtney Robinett Wagoner joined the team in 2015 as the assistant winemaker before being promoted to winemaker in 2017.

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
