Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2014-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2014

Proprietor Paolo Bianchini made some tough choices in 2009. There is no Riserva and no Pianrosso. Instead, all of that fruit went into the straight 2009 Brunello di Montalcino, which is one of the best wines of this very challenging vintage. That it comes from the southern part of Montalcino is even all the more remarkable. Sweet tobacco, menthol, racy red cherries, hard candy, spices and Mediterranean herbs blossom in an impeccable, large-scaled Brunello loaded with class. The style is quite rich and textured, but all the elements are in the right place.

Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2015-2020, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

Paolo Bianchini’s 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a plump and immediate wine with dark fruit tendencies, a bold appearance and sweet fragrances of blackberry and chewing tobacco. The body is medium in feel but should gain some volume as the wine continues its bottle evolution. The Tuscan sunshine cuts straight through this wine with soft tannins and a fruity, approachable style. Two and a half years of barrel aging follows fermentation in stainless steel. Drink: 2015-2020. Concentrated ruby with narrow bright orange rim. Ripe strawberry fruit with some zest to it. Firm tannic structure that fits the ripe fruit. (WS)
