The 2022 Chardonnay El Diablo Vineyard has pure, inviting aromas of poached pears, quince, honey, roasted almonds and marshmallow. The palate is medium-bodied and vibrant, balancing concentrated, perfumed flavors with bright acidity, and it has a long, flinty finish. It will benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar.

Formerly listed as the Chardonnay UV - El Diablo in homage to legendary farmer Ulises Valdez, the name of the 2022 Chardonnay El Diablo Vineyard has now been simplified. Pouring a youthful yellow/golden color, this wine spent 14 months in 25-40% new French oak (like all these single vineyard wines). The nose opens to a sweet perfume of honeysuckle, toasted vanilla bean, fresh peach, and melon rind. Full-bodied, with a weightless feel, it’s rounded through the palate, with a bit of pithy texture to frame the structure and more modest acidity. Long on the palate, it closes with lingering smoky incense and a clean finish. Decadent without being overblown, it’s a very graceful approach to this site. Drink 2025-2037.
The 2022 Chardonnay El Diablo Vineyard offers good depth and plenty of persistence. Ripe orchard fruit, lemon confit, white flowers and dried herbs are nicely laced together. More than anything else, the 2022 is notable for its savory personality and distinct phenolic character.
