2011 Efeste Syrah Jolie Bouche

(vinified with 30% whole clusters and aged entirely in French oak, 20% new; bottled without fining or filtration): Bright, dark red. Cool aromas of black cherry, pomegranate, iron shavings and granite, plus a hint of Brazil nut. Sappy and bright but not yet open or pliant, offering firm-edged flavors of dark berries, black cherry, spices and licorice. Conveys a crushed-fruit urgency today but lacks give. Is the fruit ripe enough to blossom with cellaring?
