Punteggio 95/100 · James Suckling, Feb 2019

Roasted-meat, smoke and savory notes, plus a slew of blackberry and bitter-chocolate character. On the palate the major tannin structure gives this a lot of drive, but there’s more than enough richness to balance it. Very long, dry and mineral finish. Better from 2021.

From Mt. Veeder, on the southwestern side of the valley, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Lampyridae Vineyard is all Cabernet and was raised in 100% new French oak. There are only 219 cases produced, but it offers a thrilling bouquet of red and blue fruits, flowers, blood orange, and lavender. More open and sexy than most Mt. Veeder Cabernets, it has full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and a beautiful elegance, all making it already impossible to resist. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this close down with another 6-12 months of bottle age, but it should be capable of lasting for 15 years or more.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2022-2036, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2018

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Lampyridae Vineyard is dense and powerful, but also comes across as a bit monolithic and without the layers of detail found in the other vineyard designate Cabernets. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 opens and gain more nuance with time in bottle.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Lampyridae Vineyard is made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 21 months in 100% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with notes of black cherries, fresh blackberries and blackcurrants with touches of tilled soil, garrigue, wild thyme and black tea. Full, firm, grainy and laden with black fruits and earthy layers, it finishes with great length. 219 cases produced.
