As to the reds, the 2017 HG III showed well. A Merlot-dominated blend, it has lots of spice, incense, and dried herb notes as well as a core of chocolaty fruit. Medium to full-bodied, forward, balanced, and undeniably delicious, enjoy bottles over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2017 HG III is the entry-level wine in this range. It is soft, fruity and easy to like. Sweet red berry fruit and floral notes are nicely lifted in this pretty, Merlot-based blend. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, as it feels a bit fragile today.
The 2017 HG III is a blend of 60% Merlot, 17% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon plus some mixed field blends. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it has a pretty perfume of baked black cherries, plum pudding and spice cake with wafts of wilted roses and garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with evocative juicy black and blue fruits, framed by plush tannins, finishing spicy.
The 2017 HG III is a delicious entry-level wine from Hourglass. Plump, juicy and forward, with striking fruit, the 2017 is shaping up nicely. This Merlot-based blend has a lot to offer. I would prefer to drink it on the young side, while the black cherry and plum fruit remain vibrant.
