Made from the winery's estate Angel Camp Vineyard in the Deep End of the appellation, the 2020 Pinot Noir is tiny in production but mighty on the palate. Structured and grippy at first, it evolves in the glass to impart spiced berry fruit compote flavors around richer undertones of cocoa nib and forest, finishing supple and fresh. Recommended drinking window is 2025-2028. Donum is a longstanding producer of highly regarded limited-production wines based in Carneros. Working with organic-certified and regenerative organic-certified vineyard sites, they predominantly make Carneros and Russian River Valley Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, but they’ve also long ventured into Anderson Valley and now have two estate vineyard sites – Angel Camp Vineyard, planted in 2006, and Savoy Vineyard, acquired in 2023. The 2020 Carneros Estate Pinot Noir was harvested earlier than usual, due to the outbreak of wildfires. It has a medium ruby color and savory aromas of cranberry sauce, cracked pepper, bay leaves and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has an abundance of grainy tannins, earth-laced fruits, juicy acidity and gregarious new oak spices on the finish. Around 1,200 cases were made.
