Bright, light yellow. Musky aromas of yellow fruits, lemon zest and smoky silex minerality, with a note of redcurrant emerging with air. At once dense and precise, offering outstanding thickness and energy to its citrus fruit and crushed rock flavors. An outstanding, complete Pouilly-Fuissé with a tactile, dusty mouthfeel and a strong impression of soil, this wine left my salivary glands humming. Incidentally, the Barrauds bottle their wines with only 60 to 70 ppm of free sulfur, but Daniel noted that they have not experienced problems with premature oxidation. (A bottle of the 2000 en Buland Vieilles Vignes showed a full bright gold color and inviting aromas of caramel and porcini. On the palate, it was strongly spicy and citrussy, with its porcini and white truffle notes leavened by noteworthy mineral energy. Perhaps a bit past its peak but a very good showing. I rated it 90 points.)

Discreet nose. Very juicy and dense but without, so far, that much perceptible flavour. Presumably this will develop… (JR)

The 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé En Bulands Vieilles Vignes has a wonderful bouquet, quite stony and minerally, scents of smoke, lemon peel and a hint of orange blossom, all subtle at first but opening nicely with aeration. The palate is clean and fresh with vibrant citrus fruit, not as powerful as its peers but delivering great tension and spiciness on the long, graceful finish. This is another excellent wine from Barraud.

(from a 1934 planting, the oldest of the domain, situated on calcaire and marne soil below the rock of Solutré): Pale lemon-yellow. Aromas of pineapple, orange oil, damp rock and spicy oak. Very concentrated and rich, the deepest and sweetest of the Barraud wines I tasted on this visit. The creamy small-berry character gives the wine noteworthy sucrosité but fine-grained, well-integrated acidity provides it with excellent balance. Strong dry extract here but in a very smooth, seamless package. Finishes dry, gripping and long.
